What was it about the “rod” that Moses had? It was just a wooden staff for walking and it could be used as a weapon. There was nothing special about that rod, that is until the Great I AM came into the picture. In Exodus 4:2, “And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod”. The use of that rod became the “Knowing Faith of Moses”. What was it about Elisha and the stick that he cast into the water, (2nd Kings 6:5-7). It was just a wooden stick but there was something else with that stick. When Elisha took that stick in his hand then the “Knowing Faith” that Elisha had in the one he worshiped became a part of that stick. It’s not recorded that Elisha said a prayer over it or even command the axe head to appear. But that stick became empowered with the power of God and when it was cast into the water then the “Knowing Faith” of Elisha was in that stick. That stick took on the power of God because of the “Knowing Faith” of the Prophet Elisha and the axe head came to the top.
Both the rod and the stick came from a tree but it’s not the wood of that tree that is powerful, it is the force and power that God will use that tree for, just as the cross of Calvary. It’s not the wood that was used in making that cross but that wood became precious because of the ONE who was nailed to that cross. The rod that Moses had would become a symbol of God’s Power in His WORD. Casting the stick into the water and the axe head did swim was because of the “Knowing Faith” that Elisha had because he knew the power of God. The cross became the Altar for the sacrifice that God said that He would provide, (Genesis 22:8). Faith is not in the wood of that cross, but Faith is in the One who was on that cross.
Moses uses the Rod of the Power of God’s command. Exodus 4:17, “And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs”. Exodus 4:20, “And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand”. That Rod was with Moses from Egypt to the hill that Moses stood on with the Rod of God (Exodus 17:9). Moses had that Rod of Knowing Faith in God.
Elisha also had the Rod of God, but it was not a staff, or a rod made of wood, but it was the Rod of His Knowing Faith in God. Notice the faith of Elisha in 2nd Kings 6:13-17, the King of Syria came against Elisha and when morning came the servant of Elisha saw the army that surround the city and with fear he went to Elisha. But notice what Elisha said, “Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them”. Elisha did not pray for protection, he did not hope for protection, he did plead for protection, why, because Elisha had “Knowing Faith”. Elisha could see beyond the curtain of time and behold the Angels of God. But his servant could only see with eyes of flesh that is until Elisha asked God to open the eyes of his servant and then the servant of Elisha could see the Angels of God.
There are many different meanings to the use of the “rod”. Such as the rod of thy strength. the rod of thine inheritance, the rod of the wicked. rod of pride. rod of his anger, rod of correction, the rod of his oppressor, the rod of mine anger, rod of his mouth, the rod of his wrath, the rod of wickedness. But of all of these different meaning there is one that stands out in Isaiah 11:1-2,“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord”. That rod is the Lord Jesus Christ.
That Rod of our Salvation is the one who shed his blood for us. The one who has a name that is above all names. That Rod is the WORD that became flesh, that Rod is the miracle worker, who healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on water, commanded the winds and the sea, demons obeyed his voice and Satan has no power over him. His name is the Lord Jesus Christ.
We know who Jesus is, but do we have that “Knowing Faith”. Faith without question, faith without doubts, faith without hoping that God will answer, faith without fear. Do we have that “Knowing Faith” in the one that we worship and believe in? Too many will proclaim faith and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and their faith and belief are just words from their lips and not from their soul and heart.
“Knowing Faith” is looking beyond this physical world and looking into the Kingdom of God. Jesus said in Luke 17:21, “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you”. The Kingdom of God is within us and we must be born again in order to enter in the Kingdom of God. Jesus said in John 3:3-6, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” and in verse 5, “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God”. Our flesh cannot see the Kingdom of God, but it takes the Spirit of God for a person to see and to understand the Kingdom of God. Jesus said in verse 6, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”. If a person is born again than they have the Spirit of the Almighty God inside of their body and because of the Spirit, they can enter into God’s Kingdom because they have the owner of the Kingdom inside of them. Through faith and by the Spirit of God a person can see beyond the curtain of time.
Knowing Faith is knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ is always with us. Knowing Faith is listening and trusting in the Spirit of God that is inside of each believer. Knowing Faith is believing and trusting in Jesus without even asking for protection, healing, deliverance. Knowing Faith is knowing that you are in the Kingdom of God and the Angels of God are always with you and within the midst of believers just as our Lord Jesus Christ is always within our midst and just as the Spirit of the Almighty God is within our midst. Knowing Faith is looking pass the physical world and seeing the Spiritual world of the Kingdom of God.
When a person looks at a tree, what are they seeing? They can see the leaves of that tree, they can see the branches of that tree, they can see the trunk of that tree. All of these are visible to the eyes of flesh but what is left unseen. We cannot see the roots of that tree nor now these roots are branching out in difference direction. We cannot see the search for water nor the search for nutrients that gives life to that tree. So is it with the Kingdom of God. We can see the healing powers of God when a person is healed, but we cannot see the hand of God that does the healing. We can see a lost soul repenting, but we cannot see the Spirit of God that is dealing with that soul. We can see a person receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, but we cannot see the Spirit of God. But if we can use those spiritual eyes of faith we can look beyond the curtain of time and behold the Hosts of Heaven.
A Child of God should not dwell in uncertainty but place your trust in the one who said in John 14:18, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you”. Remember what is written in Psalms 23:1-6, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup Runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever”.
Place your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
